Orthodontic Methods and Prices: What Does the Full Treatment Include?

Orthodontic Methods and Prices: What Does the Full Treatment Include?

The cost of orthodontics cannot be understood from an appliance price alone. A complete course may include diagnostic records, planning, the appliance, regular adjustments or aligner changes, repairs and retention. Nor can every method produce the same movements. A useful comparison therefore considers the likely result, duration, cooperation required and everything included in the proposed fee.

Conventional fixed braces

Brackets bonded to the teeth are connected by an archwire that applies controlled force. Metal braces are reliable for a broad range of problems and do not depend on the patient remembering to put them back in each day. They are visible, require meticulous cleaning and can be damaged by hard or sticky foods. At adjustment visits, the clinician modifies the system for the current stage.

Aesthetic fixed appliances

Tooth-coloured or translucent brackets are less conspicuous, while their basic principle resembles conventional fixed braces. Materials vary in friction, staining tendency and resistance to breakage. Aesthetic brackets are not necessarily required on every tooth. The clinician's recommendation should reflect the movements needed and the patient's priorities.

Removable and functional appliances

These are used mainly in children for specific dental-development or jaw-growth tasks. They can be removed for cleaning, but their effect depends heavily on prescribed wear. They are not a cheaper universal substitute for fixed braces. If a child wears the appliance irregularly, progress may be limited and treatment may take longer.

Clear aligner treatment

A digitally planned series of trays moves teeth in stages. Aligners can be removed for meals and cleaning, making them an appealing, discreet choice for many adults. They must still be worn for most of the day, and complex movements may require attachments, elastics or another method. Despite online marketing, proper diagnosis and regular clinical supervision remain essential.

What makes up the total orthodontic fee?

Crown Dental's current official online price list shows fixed appliances at an indicative HUF 190,000–285,000 and removable appliances at HUF 60,000–90,000. Fixed-appliance adjustments are listed at HUF 10,000–15,000 and removable-appliance adjustments at HUF 5,000–8,000 per visit. These figures do not necessarily represent the final total. Assessment, cephalometric imaging, records, treatment of both arches, retainers and other necessary dental care may add costs. Prices can change, so use the current official price list and your written personal plan when deciding.

How should two quotations be compared?

Ask whether the quotation covers one arch or both and whether diagnostic imaging, review visits, repairs and retention are included. Clarify when a plan or fee can change, who provides follow-up care and what happens after a long interruption or relocation. The lowest headline price may not mean the lowest full cost or the most appropriate clinical option.

Frequently asked questions about methods and fees

Which type of brace is cheapest?

A removable child appliance may have a lower starting price, but it does not address the same problems as comprehensive fixed treatment. Only compare the total fees of methods that are clinically suitable alternatives in your case.

Is the quoted price per arch?

Many fixed and removable appliance fees are stated per arch, but every quotation should make this explicit. Coordinating both arches is often necessary to achieve a functional bite.

Are adjustment visits included?

Not always. Crown Dental's published price list shows separate adjustment fees. Your personal quotation should state the expected frequency and charging method.

Are clear aligners always more expensive?

No universal answer is possible. The number of aligners, case complexity, refinements and the system's pricing structure all matter. Compare complete plans rather than promotional entry prices.

Can orthodontic treatment be paid in instalments?

Payment arrangements can vary by treatment and current clinic policy. Ask for the available schedule and conditions in writing at consultation.

Why is the final fee only confirmed after examination?

Appliance choice, duration, number of arches and preliminary care depend on diagnosis. A fixed promise made without records may be misleading.

Include retention from the beginning

A retainer protects the new tooth positions after active appliances are removed, so its design, fitting, reviews and possible replacement belong in cost planning. Ask whether a bonded wire, removable tray or combination is expected, how long it should be used and how damage is handled. A low appliance quote may be less transparent if retention and necessary visits are excluded. When comparing providers, use the same time horizon, such as initial records through the first annual post-treatment review. Price still does not measure quality on its own: sound diagnosis, qualified supervision, clear communication and a plan for complications are essential parts of value.
